It's Behind You - A History of Pantomime

This exhibition was held from 21st December 2005 to 20th January 2006 with a very successful preview evening on 18th December with 82 invited guests.

The preview evening included 15 pupils from Applegrove Primary School presenting a pantotastic "Pantomime Idol" sketch on the stage which was specifically built for the exhibtion.

Many school groups were given a special tours of the exhibtiion and successful workshops which kept nearly 200 children entertained, were also held on Saturday mornings.

A display board was kept aside exclusively to publicise local pantomimes and christmas plays in Forres, Elgin and Inverness.

Anne Owen, Outreach & Interpretation Officer and Chris Bridgeford, Secretary of the Friends welcoming guests to the preview evening.

As well as explaining how Pantomime became such a popular art form, the exhibition showed many pantomime related objects such as those shown here.

Above is shown a set of Pantomime themed cards from the 1950s for the game of Snap.

Above is a modern reproduction of the cardboard theatres which were one of the most popular toys in Victorian Britain.
