This exhibition was held in December 2003 and showcased a variety
of toys from the 20th century.
Items from Moray Museums' collection were
enhanced by loans of toys from the general public, Friends of
the Museum and the Museum of Childhood in Edinburgh.
The giving of gifts is just one of our
Christmas traditions that became popular in Britain in Victorian
times (1837 - 1901), and it was during this period that toy manufacturing
flourished.
From baby dolls and Noah's Arks to teddy
bears and steam trains, children played with a wider selection
of toys than ever before.
Despite changes in society, and improving technology, children still
love to play with many of these toys today.
The toys on display dated from the late
nineteenth century, through to the early twenty-first century.
Do you remember playing with any of these examples?
